Placebo on GetGlue

Placebo on GetGlue: "May have a therapeutic effect? Come on now, some studies have yielded positive placebo effects greater than 20%. And anecdotally, patients that were later told that they had received a placebo replied they did not care, if it worked they wished to continue treatment with that 'drug'. In a clinical trial, one group of the randomized pop- ulation is administered a placebo in lieu of the drug being tested for efficacy and is reported in the results as drug responses versus placebo responses, positive or negative. another randomized population is given no treatment, or if a current therapy exists that the new drug is attempting to displace they may be given the traditional treatment. with a large enough test group both the non-treated and those under common treatment modalities may be included and each or both can be considered control group(s) vis a vis the test and placebo groupings"
this is an essential part of a clinical trial design.randomization attempts to insure that one group of subjects that share a common characteristic are not place in a single group, trial, control or placebo. Be it blood type, Body Mass index, gender or any other commonality that could skew data to invalidate statistical results
